NEW DELHI: Jagdeep Dhankhar on Monday resigned from the Vice-President post, citing health concerns and the need to follow medical advice. In his resignation letter, he said the decision was taken to " prioritise health care " in light of ongoing health issues.
“To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice-President of India, effective immediately, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the Constitution,” Dhankhar wrote in a letter addressed to President Droupadi Murmu.
In his resignation letter, Dhankhar expressed gratitude to the President for her “unwavering support” and described their working relationship as “soothing and wonderful.” He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the council of ministers for their cooperation, calling the Prime Minister’s support “invaluable.”
“The warmth, trust, and affection I have received from all the Hon'ble Members of Parliament would ever be cherished and embedded in my memory,” he wrote, reflecting on his tenure as Vice President .
Dhankhar also said it had been a privilege to witness India’s “remarkable economic progress” and “unprecedented exponential development” during his term. As he steps down, he expressed “unwavering confidence” in the nation’s future, calling Bharat’s global rise “phenomenal.”
