Europe is home to some of the world's most modern and amazing capital cities. Places like London, Paris, Berlin and Warsaw have everything from incredible transport links and huge skyscrapers to busy airports and train stations. However, that's not the case for every capital city in Europe.
One of them doesn't have a single airport or railway station, and yet thousands of tourists still visit it each year. Andorra la Vella, the capital of Andorra, sits high in the Pyrenees between France and Spain. But despite being a popular destination, it remains completely cut off from Europe's air and rail networks.

There are no commercial airports or train lines in the city, or anywhere else in the country.
This is mainly because its mountainous landscape and small size have made major infrastructure difficult to build.
The nearest airport is Andorra-La Seu d'Urgell Airport in Spain, about 15 miles away.
But it only handles a few regional flights. Most visitors arrive via Barcelona or Toulouse and then take a long bus or car journey through the mountains.
The closest train station is in L'Hospitalet-près-l'Andorre, just across the border in France.

There are also rail links to Lleida in Spain, but both require a connecting bus to reach the capital.
Still, what Andorra la Vella lacks in transport, it makes up for in charm.
The city is one of the highest capitals in Europe, with fresh mountain air, scenic views, and peaceful streets.
It's best known for duty-free shopping, with people coming from France and Spain to buy perfume, alcohol, clothes and electronics at lower prices.
The main shopping streets are full of international brands and local stores.
There's also plenty of history. Tourists often stop at Casa de la Vall, a 16th-century stone building that once housed Andorra's parliament.
There are also Romanesque churches, museums, and narrow streets full of cafés.
In winter, it's a base for skiing and snowboarding, with several resorts just a short drive away.
In summer, people come for hiking, cycling, and mountain views.
All in all, Andorra la Vella may not be the easiest place to reach, but for those who do make the journey, it offers something very different from the usual European capital city experience.
