The sun is shining and with another heatwave on the cards, many of us may be heading for a day out at the beach to cool ourselves off in the sea and to enjoy a Mr Whippy ice cream. Although many may be flying off to the shores of Spain, France or Greece, British seaside towns can be a great place for a weekend away without all the faff.
And one place at the top of the list is none other than Scarborough in North Yorkshire. The town sitting on the east coast has become famous for its vast coastline of golden beaches and incredible views of the North Sea. The town can be perfect for a longer trip away as there is plenty to explore, whether it's rugged cliffs, Scarborough Castle or even journeying into the North York Moors National Park, don't be fooled into thinking it's just about the beach.
With its sights, history and natural beauty, it's no surprise it's picked up some accolades from some travel experts.
It was named one of the top destinations to visit in the UK by Time Out magazine in 2023 and has also been described as the "most beautiful seaside resort in England" by CN Traveller.
Heaping on the praise the magazine added: "The dramatic castle occupies the headland which separates the two main bays - steep cliffs stretching away in both directions. The old town ascends the slope to the castle in a maze of crooked streets, with buildings dating back to Tudor times."
The town's Open Air Theatre has also become famed for hosting some big-name gigs from Madness, to Fat Boy Slim and even global star Will Smith will make his way to North Yorkshire for a gig in August.

But as with any seaside holiday, you're sure to be spending some time soaking up the sun on Scarborough's beautiful beaches, with the choice of both North and South Bay.
South Bay Beach is best for a family day out as it was extremely popular during the Victorian era; it's where most of the attractions are and is set right beside the bustling promenade where you'll find classic amusements, fish and chips, and more.
North Bay Beach is a much quieter spot and offers a great place to relax and take a quieter walk filled with rocky pools and beautiful vintage beach huts all set on a backdrop of beautiful hills and cliffs.
No matter what you plan on doing, Scarborough is the perfect place for a relaxing beach holiday as there are many specular sights, rich history and fun attractions to choose from at England's most beautiful seaside resort.
