Syrian asylum seeker denies raping woman in Bournemouth seafront public toilet

A teenager has denied raping a woman in a seafront public toilet. Mohammed Abdullah, 18, is accused of attacking the 20-year-old woman in the toilet in Undercliff Drive, Bournemouth, at around 2am on July 6 this year.

The defendant entered not guilty pleas to charges of rape and assault by penetration alleged to have been committed against one complainant. During a short hearing at Bournemouth Crown Court, Abdullah was assisted in the dock by an interpreter. Judge Jonathan Fuller KC said Abdullah, of West Drayton, Middlesex, would go on trial on May 5 next year.

The judge said: "The matter will be adjourned for trial which will take place on May 5 next year.

"You will have to be back here on October 30 for a further case management hearing.

"You will be remanded to your bail subject to the same conditions that were imposed at this court in July."

His conditional bail, which includes a tagged home curfew, was continued by the judge and he was ordered to return to court for a further case management hearing on October 30.

A hearing in July was told by his solicitor that he originally came from Syria two years ago as an asylum seeker.
