Autumn has officially arrived, and with it, pumpkin dishware seems to be everywhere. One piece that's made quite a stir online is Le Creuset's Cast Iron Pumpkin Casserole dish. It's been such a hit that even high-street names like Argos have released their own takes on the look. Though typically smaller, most have a friendlier price tag.
However, the majority seem to be in a classic orange. It's festive, sure, and certainly true to the vegetable, but if your kitchen leans more neutral or minimalist, bright orange might not be the vibe. Luckily, Next has jumped on the trend with its own version of a pumpkin dish, but with a chic, speckled white finish.
It has a similar aesthetic to Le Creuset's cream casserole dish, but it's worth noting that Next's one is purely a serving dish. Unlike Le Creuset's, it's not designed for cooking, so that means you can't use it on the hob, in the oven, or in the microwave. In contrast, the high-end version is both practical and pretty, being safe for the oven, hob (including induction), and even the grill.
Still, if you're mainly after something stylish and seasonal to serve for dinnertime, and you'd rather not splash out, the real appeal is the price. The Next serving dish is just £25, a massive £274 less than Le Creuset's £299 version.
The design is functional and cute. The base acts as a bowl while the top (complete with pumpkin-style stem) doubles as a lid, helping to keep soups, chillis, or curries warm. If you're serving something cold, like salads or cereal, you can always leave the lid off.
Size-wise, the Next dish is a little smaller, measuring 20cm wide and 15cm deep, which makes sense given its serving-only purpose. It's dishwasher safe too.
Of course, if you're after a long-term investment piece that can go from oven to table and last for years, the high-end alternative might still be worth the splurge. But if you're after a sweet autumnal touch, the high-street dish is a lovely and budget-friendly pick.
If you prefer something a little more subtle, Emma Bridgewater has a beautiful pumpkin-themed roasting dish that nods to the season without being garish. The dish retails for £45 and rather than a pumpkin shape, it's a classic white enamel tray decorated with orange lettering that reads "roasted pumpkin, rosemary & sage."
It's understated enough for year-round use and has a generous 2000ml capacity. It's earned five-star reviews, with one shopper saying: "Expensive but great quality and fabulous design."
Or, if you'd prefer a little festive flair without committing to a big dish, Next also has an adorable pumpkin salt and pepper shaker set. Shaped like little squash in two shades of orange (one dark, one light), they sit neatly on a wooden tray to keep your table tidy.
At just £15, they're an understated way to bring a bit of autumn to your dining setup. Shoppers also say they make a lovely gift: "Great purchase, I've put it aside as a present for someone... Very pleased."
