My face gets dry in the sun so I tried Medik8's sheet mask to rehydrate my skin

When it comes to skincare, I follow a strict routine and always finish with SPF. However the recent heatwave has dried up my skin and my face, leaving it in need of a big drink. I usually go for a sheet mask as a remedy as they're easy to use and only 10 minutes before sleep.

A few months ago I received Medik8's Ultimate Recovery Bio-Cellulose Mask in a beauty box, it's a single sheet mask infused with a unique combination of power-packed minerals to intensely soothe, nourish and refresh skin. One thing that I love about the Medik8 sheet mask is the formula - which includes Rockweed Algae Extract, a big hydration boost for those who need a bit of TLC.

The mask is available to purchase directly from Medik8 in a pack of six single-use sheet masks for £70, working out at £11.67 each although bargain hunters can get them from Amazon for £56 for the same box. While this is a premium mask compared to much of the market, with the Medik8 one made of non-rip bio-cellulose - tightly-woven natural fibres that are able to fit perfectly into facial contours and leave no gaps, allowing the serum to get absorbed into skin for the best result.

It was slippery when I first put it on but once the serum dried slightly, I could sit up or walk around to do my chores. My tip is to put the sheet mask in the fridge before use so when put on, it provides a cooling sensation.

Aside from Medik8, I also like to use hydrogel sheet masks. They are like jelly patches for your face and are water-based to lock in more moisture. The BioEffect Imprinting Hydrogel Mask (£15 for one or £75 for 6) is packed with hyaluronic acid while 111Skin's Rose Gold Sheet Masks (£90 for 5) offers a skin glow with peptides, colloidial gold and rose damask.

However shoppers with long nails have to be careful when handling hydrogel masks as they can tear easily, making the Medik8 Bio-Cellulose Mask a better choice for durability. Fifteen minutes later, I removed the mask and tapped my face to get the last bits of products on my face.

My face felt refreshed and visibly plumped, with the hydration lasting overnight. It simplified my night time routine and gave my skin a major recovery after days in the sun.

For me the price is the main concern and I only use the sheet mask as a treat or a pre-event glow-up. They are great to carry on travel but for at-home use, shoppers can consider cream masks like this Perricone MD Cold Plasma Plus+ The Intensive Gel Mask, which is now reduced to £49.20 online.
