Fried eggs are a staple of British breakfasts, a key component of the Full English (or Full Welsh or Full Scottish or Ulster Fry depending on where in the UK you hail from), which may not be the healthiest but is a tasty, protein packed pick me up either in a sandwhich, on toast, or as a full-on fry up.
But you don't necessarily need a frying pan and a load of oily mess to make the perfect fried egg. In fact, you can fry an egg in the microwave in less than a minute. It's lower in calories, as you need much less oil, and there's no smoke and crispy burnt bits everywhere, so it's easier, quicker, healthier and just as tasty as making fried eggs with a frying pan in the traditional way.
It's a fried egg cooking method my dad used to swear by, but it turns out he wasn't a mad eccentric as in fact experts also reccommend this way of cooking fried eggs.
It's extremely easy to make fried eggs in the microwave. As the One Sweet Appetite food blog explains: "Let me begin by saying, these Microwave Fried Eggs will truly change your life. You think I'm kidding, but I'm not! With just a one-minute cook time, they've become my son's go-to breakfast he can make in the blink of an eye, no joke.
"At our house, we've been cooking eggs in the microwave for years. It's actually one of our favourite methods. It's pretty much hassle-free, totally foolproof and yields consistent results every time. On top of that, there's little to no mess."
To make microwave fried eggs, spray or rub a little oil on a dish or deep plate. Then, crack an egg into the dish. Take a knife and gently pierce the yolk (not enough to actually break it - but this prevents it exploding later), then pop it into the microwave on high for 30 seconds.
Leave it to stand for one minute, then check the egg. If you like it more well done, you can add more 10 second increments to cook it a little more.
Then simply serve onto toast, bread or whatever you fancy - fuss-free.
