Liverpool have been given fresh hope in their chase for Marc Guehi after claims the transfer could be completed before the summer window shuts. The Reds have opened talks with Crystal Palace regarding a move for the defender.
However, both sides remain apart on valuation. Palace have demanded £45million for Guehi, but Liverpool value the player at closer to £35m as he has entered the final 12 months of his contract. Speculation surrounding Guehi's future intensified last weekend amid suggestions the 25-year-old snubbed Palace manager Oliver Glasner on the field following their 0-0 draw with Chelsea, although that has since been dismissed as a misunderstanding. Former Manchester United and Wrexham goalkeeper Ben Foster remains convinced that Guehi's switch to Liverpool will go through, regardless of the valuation disagreement between the clubs. However, the ex-England keeper has slammed the player's handling of the saga, accusing him of throwing his toys out of the pram.
Speaking on his Foster said: "It's horrible, and you know there's something big going on behind the scenes. I would be expecting to see Mark Guehi signing for Liverpool within the next week or two.
"I really, really would, because that is a very public falling out. That's the way that it goes, though, nowadays. Obviously the only way to get a move is by throwing your toys out of the pram."
Guehi's situation was discussed by Glasner this week, along with that of Eberechi Eze, who looks set to join Arsenal after rejecting Tottenham. The Austrian said: "Most of you will be surprised that they will start again tomorrow because of all the rumours. But they are committed here and they will play a crucial part.
"I've seen so much nonsense written about this. Marc was upset that he didn't win the game [against Chelsea] and I loved this. It's the best sign that he could show of how ambitious we are."
Despite Glasner's comments, Palace are monitoring potential replacements for Guehi. The Eagles have identified Club Brugge's Joel Ordonez as a target, while also retaining a strong interest in Sporting CP's Ousmane Diomande.
Earlier this month, Palace co-owner Steve Parish acknowledged that there remained a chance Guehi could depart in the summer. Speaking following their Community Shield victory over Liverpool at Wembley, he said: "Of course, for players of that calibre to leave on a free, it is a problem for a football club. There is no doubt about it, unfortunately.
"Joachim [Andersen] went and we couldn't afford to lose both of them. We then had another bid in January, but that was a difficult situation as well. We will just have to see what happens. It needs a new contract or a conclusion of some kind."
