Georgia is one of the cheapest European destination for drivers seeking a rental car this summer, with petrol priced at just 80p per litre. As a plus, it offers beautiful views and excellent sight seeing for holidaymakers.

A study has identified petrol prices across Europe to reveal where drivers will spend the most on fuel this summer. Georgia offers the lowest price for petrol across all European destinations at just 80p per litre, which is less than half of what the typical country charges (£1.27). With the average fuel tank capacity being around 55 litres, that means it would cost just £44 for a full tank for those visiting Georgia.

Tucked between the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains, Georgia is one of Europe's most overlooked treasures. This country, steeped in ancient history and abundant natural beauty, also hosts Tbilisi, one of the world's most enchanting capitals. While hordes of tourists descend on Paris, Rome or Barcelona, Georgia remains a hidden gem for many British holidaymakers.

However, those who have ventured off the beaten track have discovered that this picturesque nation offers a unique blend of Eastern and Western influences, tradition and modernity - all without the hefty price tag associated with more popular destinations. At the heart of it all lies Tbilisi.

Nestled in a dramatic valley and bisected by the Mtkvari River, the capital city is a mosaic of cobbled streets, vibrant balconies and decaying castles, all under the watchful eye of the formidable Narikala Fortress. Its old-world allure is irresistible, yet it pulses with a youthful, creative energy.

While the capital alone is an unforgettable destination, the true magic of Georgia lies in its rapid transformation. Venture a few hours north and you'll find yourself amidst the snow-capped peaks of Kazbegi, where quaint hilltop chapels overlook awe-inspiring alpine landscapes.

Journey east and the terrain mellows into the vine-laden hills of Kakheti, the country's primary wine region - particularly delightful in early autumn during the grape harvest season.

In this land, centuries-old sulphur bathhouses coexist with chic rooftop wine bars. Ornate Orthodox churches rub shoulders with striking street art. One enthusiastic visitor commented on Trip Advisor: "cant wait to return, everything was perfect."

The findings come from travel experts Vignetteswitzerland.com, who analysed fuel prices according to current figures for 45 European travel destinations. The study found that the UK charges almost 5% more for petrol at £1.33 per litre than the average European country (£1.27).

M.E. Wijnmalen, CEO of Vignetteswitzerland.com, commented on the findings: "These price variations across Europe can have a major impact on holiday budgets for British travellers. A family driving 1,500 miles would spend approximately £121 on fuel in Belarus compared to £362 in Iceland - a difference of £241.

"The data shows that Eastern European countries offer the best value for motorists, with prices often half those found in Western and Northern Europe. This can translate to substantial savings for road-trippers who are flexible on their routes."
