Fans of Channel 5 predicted that "something is brewing" within the Royal Family as the TV channel aired a one-hour and 30-minute special documentary about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding. Using reconstructions and insider accounts, Harry & Meghan: The Wedding That Split Two Families revealed the clashes between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the royal household that nearly brought down the monarchy.
It showed what began as a fairy-tale royal wedding quickly unravelling into one of the most divisive events in the modern monarchy. The special day, back in 2018, was watched by millions of people around the world, but the new documentary argues that behind the public spectacle of unity and joy, the event was a flashpoint that fractured two families and set the stage for a royal crisis. The programme explored the reported friction between Meghan and palace staff, the growing rift between brothers William and Harry that supposedly escalated into heated arguments, and the now-infamous bridesmaid dress dispute that pitted two powerful women against each other.
The documentary makes the case that the events of the wedding week triggered a chain reaction that continues to define the couple's relationship with the monarchy even now. And fans who were watching at home seem to thing that there will be more tension to come.
While the film was airing on Channel 5, viewers took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their thoughts. Some thought that the programme could be somewhat of a "cover up" for something happening within the Royal Family.
One penned: "So channel 5 has another Harry & Meghan show in 'The Wedding that split two families'. They are desperately trying to take everyone's attention away from something that must be brewing in Royal Family."
Another echoed: "There have been a few programs on Harry and Meghan this year. Something is definitely up that they are trying to distract us from."
Someone else wrote: "It is all a distraction. Just don't watch it," while one more added: "Why isn't media airing the Wales' fairytale life? UK media claim Harry & Meghan are irrelevant but talk about them as if they were the future King & Queen who abdicated the throne!"
Other fans branded the show a "must watch" as it called out Meghan's "rotten" behaviour. "Watching Harry and Meghan: The Wedding the Split Two Families on Channel 5 ... unintentionally hilarious... a must watch," they said. "They're going through the pre-wedding arguments and Meghan being basically a lying b****... oops!"
