BBC Breakfast took an awkward turn when one star was called out for littering on-set by Clean Up Britain spokesperson Ed Lennox. Hosts Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty were left stunned as Ed called out a former guest on the BBC morning show for dropping litter on the floor in a confrontation that quickly turned awkward.
Charlie was asking the protocol for addressing someone who drops litter and asking them to pick it up, questioning Ed: "Would you say to someone?", to which he replied: "If I see somebody when I leave here today littering, I would say so. I found this piece of litter left by one of your earlier guests, by one of the chairs."
A stuttering Charlie insisted: "Well, well- we don't know who has left it to be fair but, you know, shame on us! Where was it, on the floor?"
Ed promised: "I will throw it away. It was on the floor. I will take it away." Charlie hummed in response, as Naga interjected: "We do have a bin."
Chuckling, Ed vowed: "I will use the bin, I promise."
It comes after a popular segment of the show was missing today (July 12), with Newswatch vanishing from the airwaves. Naga told viewers: "If you were hoping to see Newswatch on today's programme, you may have noticed we didn't play it at the usual time of quarter to eight."
Charlie explained: "That was down to some scheduling issues, we plan to run it on tomorrow's Breakfast instead so that will be on Sunday morning."
The weekly programme, presented by Samira Ahmed, provides a viewer and listener right-of-reply for BBC News, and is usually broadcast at 7:45am on Saturday mornings, as well as on the UK feed of the BBC News channel on Fridays at 11:30pm.
