GOODWOOD GALAXY (3.30, NAP) can be the star of Newbury’s longest lasting sponsored race today. The 44-year-old Haynes, Hanson & Clark Stakes has featured four future Derby winners in its history.

David Menuiser’s challenger may struggle to reach those heights or that of the most recent top graduate, Breeders’ Cup winner Yibir, but already has pattern level experience. After a debut win at Salisbury in June, he ran on strongly to finish fourth behind Sunday’s National Stakes winner Zavateri in the Vintage Stakes at Goodwood, then finished last in the Acomb Stakes at York.

His latest effort was too bad to be true with connections reporting he ran too free as a result of receiving a bump from a rival early in the race. He can take this chance to reset the record.

VOLTERRA (4.05, NB) defeated surprise Sussex Stakes winner Qirat when he last encountered soft ground over 7f and has since run creditably at Group 3 level. This represents a slight drop down in class and he can take strike again over his preferred distance.

At Ayr Jim Goldie holds all the cards in the Bronze Cup with a quartet headed by Portland Handicap winner Eternal Sunshine. She has to carry an 8lb penalty and another filly of his, MOSTAR DREAMS (3.40), could be the ace in the pack.
