Gavin & Stacey star Joanna Page has landed a brand new BBC One series. The actress 48, found fame as Stacey West in the beloved sitcom, which wrapped up last Christmas in a highly-acclaimed finale, alongside Mathew Horne, Ruth Jones and James Corden but now she will be back on screens with something completely different.

Joanna, who also starred in festive classic Love Actually alongside Hugh Grant, Dame Emma Thompson and Martine McCutcheon before landing her signature role, will start shooting the 12-part series later this month.

She will be fronting Shift The Thrift, a new game show that will see two contestants go head-to-head as they hunt for potential charity shop items. It will then be a race against time for them both to see who can make a profit.

A transmission date for the new programme is yet to be confirmed, but it will launch on BBC One and BBC iPlayer at some point in the future. Speaking about her show, Joanna said: "I absolutely love charity shops and have been customising and upcycling clothes for years, so this show is right up my street.

“It’s fun, fast, and gives people great ideas on how to find value in second-hand treasure – all while supporting brilliant local causes. "

Commissioning editor for BBC Daytime Lindsay Bradbury said: “Shift The Thrift is a timely celebration of creativity, sustainability and entrepreneurial spirit. This is a programme that the whole family can sit down and watch together and might even inspire audiences to get out there and start thrifting!"

Julian Carey, commissioning editor for BBC Cymru Wales, added: “We love a bargain and we love the thrill of the hunt and this series is all about the fun to be had rummaging for treasures and tracking down unique finds.

"It’s also a celebration of our network of charity shops which are a backbone of fundraising in Britain and a brilliant model for how we can shop sustainably and cheaply while supporting good causes at the same time. As such this feels like a timely and warm-hearted TV treat!"

Gavin & Stacey, which also boasted acting legends Alison Steadman and Larry Lamb amongst its cast, initially ran for three series from 2007 until 2010 on BBC Three. It returned sporadically for festive specials over the years, and the grand finale picked up the comedy at last night's National Television Awards, beating off competition from Michael McIntyre's 25th Year Stand-Up Special, Mrs Brown's Boys and Michelle Keegan-fronted comedy Brassic.

Since her star turn as Stacey West, Joanna has become a television favourite , having made appearances in staples like Doctor Who and Midsomer Murders. As herself, she recently fronted Joanna Page's Wild Life and appeared on Cooking With The Stars.

From 2023 until 2024, she enjoyed a stint as a panellist on Loose Women and them teamed up with EastEnders' Natalie Cassidy for a short-lived podcast called Off the Telly.
