Marathi actress Jyoti Chandekar passed away on Saturday, August 16, at the age of 68 in Pune. She was best known for the Marathi TV show Tharala Tar Mag and had reportedly been undergoing treatment for several days while battling a prolonged illness. Her funeral took place today, August 17, at 11 a.m. at Vaikunth Crematorium in Pune, with MNS Chief Raj Thackeray among those paying their last respects.

Tejaswini Pandit Statement On Mother's Demise

After the news of Jyoti’s mother’s passing broke, her daughter shared a statement on her social media handle in Marathi, which read, "It is with deep sorrow that I share the news that our mother, the esteemed and beloved actress Mrs. Jyoti Chandekar Pandit, who lived life on her own terms and always smiled wholeheartedly, passed away today, 16th August, at the age of 69 after a brief illness."

Jyoti Chandekar was married to Ranjit Pandit and is survived by their two daughters, Tejaswini Pandit and Pornima Pandit. Her demise has come as a shock to many celebrities and her fans.

Chandekar’s acting career spanned over five decades, beginning as a child artiste around the age of 12. Her filmography includes memorable works such as Dharmakanya, Dholki, Paoolwaat, Guru, and Sojourner.

Jyoti and Tejaswini appeared together in the award-winning film Ticha Umbartha, directed by Dipti Ghonsikar, in which Jyoti played Tejaswini’s mother-in-law.
