Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Though cops have launched a rigorous drive against drugs, absence of patrolling at lonely spots around lakes and dams, old buildings and even parks and graveyards have turned them into safe haven for drug addicts and youths which include college students.
Police teams are approaching school and college students to raise awareness against use of drugs and other addictions under the 15-day state-wide campaign ‘nashe se doori, hai zaroori’. The campaign may give desired results but a strict eye at such spots may also control the menace.
A number of abandoned old and dilapidated buildings in the city including those at Tila Jamalpura, Piplani, Govindpura, TT Nagar are hangouts for drug addicts. Moreover, they can also be spotted at Benazir Ground, Geetanjali College Ground, lonely pockets around Motia Talab and spaces under overbridges in the city.

Interestingly, youths addicted to marijuana can even be spotted at suicide point opposite to Police Headquarters at Jehangirabad.
Picturesque sites at Kerwa, Kaliasot Dams are favourite hangouts of college students many of whom reach there to smoke marijuana. The fact was established by ganja smuggler Bablu Mewada who was arrested by crime branch on June 22 with around 3 kilograms of the contraband.
Mewada informed police that large number of college students including girls addicted to marijuana come to Kaliasot Dam. He was planning to sell ganja to them on high rates to earn cash.
Additional DCP Shailendra Singh Chauhan said police have launched a rigorous drive against drug addiction and those involved in smuggling of drugs and marijuana. Cops patrol lonely spots to keep a check on drug addicts, he added.
