Why to avoid the Gular Tree during the Kanwar Yatra: As soon as the holy month of Sawan arrives, the echo of Har Har Mahadev starts to be heard all around. A flood of devotees starts moving towards Shivdham carrying a Kavad. This is the time when crores of Shiva devotees go on the Kavad Yatra and bring holy water and anoint Lord Shiva. During this, it is necessary to be cautious at every step, because it is not just a religious journey but a process related to faith and penance. It is very important to follow some special rules in this journey, one of which is not to use fig wood and not to pass under the fig tree. This may sound small, but it has a very deep significance in religious beliefs. Let us know why distance is kept from the fig tree in the Kavad Yatra and what the beliefs behind it are. Astrologer Ravi Parashar is telling about this.

Gular tree and the belief associated with it
No matter how useful the fig tree is from the point of view of Ayurveda and botany, it is considered inauspicious from the religious point of view. Especially during Kavad Yatra or Shiv Puja, the use of fig wood is prohibited. It is believed that negative energy and lower powers, like ghosts, reside in the fig tree. Due to this, when a person sits in the shade of this tree or uses its wood during a sacred work like Kavad Yatra, his spiritual energy is disrupted, and there may be obstacles in the journey.
Why should one keep a distance from the fig tree during Kavad Yatra?
1. Considered a source of negative energy - Certain germs and organisms thrive in the fig tree, due to which it is considered impure. There is a religious belief that this place is full of negative energy.
2. Abode of ghosts and vampires - In the Puranas, the fig tree has been counted among those trees where evil powers reside. Therefore, stopping near it or passing through it during the Kavad Yatra is considered inauspicious.
3. Mention in Shivpuran- It is mentioned in some religious texts that the wood of the fig tree should not be burnt in havan, pujan, or any religious work. This can anger the gods.
4. Purity of Kavad- Kavad is considered to be the vehicle or symbol of Lord Shiva. It should not be allowed to come in contact with any impure object. The wood of the fig tree or the shade of the tree is considered impure.
5. Devotee's energy is affected- It is believed that coming in contact with a fig tree hinders the sadhana and devotion of the seeker. Mental and physical fatigue can increase during the journey.
Other religious beliefs related to the fig tree
Agarbatti, puja chowki, or any religious material should not be made from fig wood. It is considered inauspicious to plant it near the house or the temple. Eating figs is prohibited during religious activities.
What could be the scientific reasons?
Although these beliefs are religious, there can be some practical reasons behind them. The fig tree often has bees and insects, which can be dangerous for travelers. Its bark and wood can cause allergies or skin problems. There is a lot of moisture and dampness under the fig tree, which can spread infection.

Which trees' shade is considered auspicious in the Kavad Yatra?
Peepal - It is considered to be the form of Lord Vishnu.
Neem - It is full of purity and medicinal properties.
Banyan - It is called Akshay Vat, where the gods are believed to reside.
Kavad Yatra is not just a religious journey but a journey of faith, rules, and discipline. During this, it is important to take care of every small and big thing.
