After days of sticky and uncomfortable weather, Delhi NCR finally got a break on Tuesday. Strong winds and light showers swept across the region, giving much-needed relief from the high humidity that had made daily life difficult.
The sudden downpour not only cooled the air but also brought smiles to residents who had been sweating it out in muggy conditions. However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said the wet spell will continue for a few more days, and has issued a yellow alert for Delhi NCR.
Delhi NCR Weather: What did IMD say?
IMD scientist Naresh Kumar explained that light rainfall had been on the radar for the past few days, and people can expect more showers tomorrow.
“We are giving the forecast of light rainfall in Delhi NCR from the last 2-3 days. We have given a yellow alert for Delhi NCR, with very light rainfall expected tomorrow,” Kumar told ANI.
He also added that light to moderate rainfall is likely to persist across northwest India over the next two days, signalling that more relief could be on the way for neighbouring states as well.
Delhi NCR Weather: A sudden change in mood
The rain came almost out of nowhere on Tuesday, with gusty winds sweeping through the city, followed by showers in several areas. While the wet weather created waterlogging and traffic jams, most Delhiites didn’t mind the inconvenience. For many, the showers broke the long spell of sticky humidity that had been making days and nights equally unbearable.
Tea stalls and roadside vendors saw a rush of people enjoying pakoras and steaming cups of chai. For others, just stepping out in the cooler breeze felt refreshing after days of sweaty discomfort.
Delhi NCR Weather: Advisory for passengers
The changing weather conditions also prompted airlines and Delhi Airport to issue warnings for travellers. Some flights faced delays due to poor visibility and strong winds.
In its advisory, Delhi Airport said:
“As per the Indian Meteorological Department’s forecast, Delhi is experiencing inclement weather conditions. Our on-ground teams are working diligently with all stakeholders to ensure your journey remains hassle-free. For the latest flight information, passengers are advised to contact their respective airlines.”
While no major disruptions were reported, the advice served as a reminder for passengers to stay updated before leaving for the airport.
Rain Alert: Where else will it rain?
The IMD’s forecast does not stop with Delhi. Several adjoining towns in Haryana such as Sonipat, Kharkhoda, Charkhi Dadri, Jhajjar, Rewari, Palwal, Bawal, Nuh, Aurangabad, and Hodal are likely to see rainfall in the next couple of days. In Uttar Pradesh, places like Khatauli and Sakoti Tanda may also get showers.
Delhi NCR weather: Relief from humidity
For the people of Delhi NCR, this rain is more than just water, it is relief from the heavy humidity that had been making daily life tough. The showers have freshened up the air, reduced the stickiness, and made evenings more pleasant.
The yellow alert may signal caution, but most residents are welcoming the drizzle with open arms. With umbrellas in hand and a smile on their faces, Delhiites are ready for a few more rainy days, as long as it means saying goodbye to muggy, humid weather.
