Muzaffarpur (Bihar) [India], August 27 (ANI): Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday augmented his allegations of "vote theft" against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, and claimed that the Gujarat model was essentially a "model of theft".
He said that Congress will prove the allegations of vote theft "beyond a doubt" in the coming days.
"We will inform you within the next six months that they have developed a model of theft in the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha, which they have named the Gujarat model. It was not an economic model, but a model of theft," Gandhi, Leader of Opposition (LoP) Lok Sabha, said while addressing the gathering in Muzaffarpur on the tenth day of the 'Voter Adhikaar Yatra.'
The Raebareli MP said the Congress will work to expose the alleged discrepancies that emerged in the Mahadevapura assembly constituency from other areas as well.
"In the coming days, we will prove to you beyond a doubt that Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, and the Chief Election Commissioner are stealing votes. The youth of Bihar will show PM Narendra Modi how 'vote chori' will be put to an end," the LoP Lok Sabha said.
Criticising the Centre for introducing the Agniveer scheme and over the situation of the public sector, Gandhi claimed that all was being done to benefit billionaires "Adani and Ambani".
"The public sector used to provide jobs. Where has it gone now? To Adani and Ambani. Earlier, people would join the army and receive a pension. What happened? Agniveer happened. Who benefited? Adani and Ambani. If something happened to the youth of Bihar, they wouldn't even get the status of a martyr. Because you are an Agniveer," the LoP said.
Reiterating his criticism against the Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners (Appointment, Conditions of Service and Term of Office) Act, 2023, Gandhi said, "The Election Commission does whatever it wants without any fear, because in 2023, PM Modi brought a new law and quietly passed it in the Parliament. The law was that no case can be filed against the Election Commissioner. A case can be filed against a labourer or a farmer, but not against the Election Commissioner."
"The Constitution is being attacked because they don't want the minorities to have a voice. First, they'll steal your vote, then your ration card, then land, and then your homes, and they'll hand it all over to Ambani, Adani," he added.
The 16-day 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' in Bihar, with Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav at its forefront, aims to raise awareness about alleged irregularities in the voter list, which opposition leaders have termed a case of vote chori (vote theft). Covering over 1,300 km across 20 districts, the yatra is scheduled to conclude in Patna on September 1.
Bihar Assembly elections are expected later this year, although the Election Commission has not announced an official date.
While the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), consisting of the BJP, JD(U), and LJP, aims to retain power in Bihar, the INDIA bloc, consisting of the RJD, Congress, and left parties, is seeking to unseat Nitish Kumar.
In the current Bihar Assembly of 243 members, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) consists of 131, with the BJP having 80 MLAs, JD(U)-45, and HAM(S)-4, with the support of 2 Independent Candidates.
The Opposition's INDIA Bloc comprises 111 members, with the RJD leading with 77 MLAs, followed by Congress with 19, CPI(ML) with 11, CPI(M) with 2, and CPI with 2. (ANI)
