'His Passion...' THIS Indian ODI World Cup Winner Wants Kohli to Come Out of Test Retirement

On May 12, just days before India’s squad for the tour of England was to be announced, Virat Kohli announced his Test retirement. This came just five days after Rohit Sharma had done the same. This meant the Sydney Test vs Australia was Kohli’s last outing in whites.

Meanwhile, India find themselves 2-1 down after three Tests with two left against England. They lost by five wickets, won by 336 runs and then lost by 22 runs to concede a series lead. The aim to win a Test series on English soil after 18 years took a huge blow. It is in the wake of this that an Indian World Cup winner wants Kohli to reverse his Test retirement.

Reverse Test Retirement

The man in question is Madan Lal. Lal was part of the Indian team that won the 1983 ODI World Cup. He feels Kohli can easily play for another couple of years or so and has a passion like no other player for the game.

"Virat Kohli's passion for Indian cricket was unmatched. It's my wish that he should come back to Test cricket after retirement. There's nothing wrong with returning. If not in this series, he should make a comeback in the next,” he said while speaking to CricketPredicta.

"From my point of view, he should reverse his retirement. Because he can easily play for 1-2 years. It's about you passing your experience to the youngsters. You just left it. It's not too late. Please come back," he added.

Kohli’s Test Stats

Kohli represented India in 123 Tests. He scored 9230 runs at an average of 46.85 with 13 not outs. He finished with 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries. The man’s top score was 254 not out. He hit seven double hundreds. Last year, he retired from T20Is meaning that the ODI format is the only one he is still active in. It remains to be seen when he will be in action next in national colours.
