Jurrien Timber must follow Gary Neville example in Arsenal title bid amid Bukayo Saka order

Former Arsenal midfielder Anders Limpar has urged Jurrien Timber to replicate the trophy haul of Manchester United legend Gary Neville if he is to become one of the best in world football.

Timber has been highly impressive this season for the Gunners as he put his injury woes behind him. Almost immediately after signing for Arsenal he suffered a cruciate ligament tear which kept him out for the season.

Fortunately since then, the Dutchman has managed to avoid any major setbacks and has really pushed on this season. The right-back has started all but one of Arsenal's opening sevenPremier League matches and already has two goals and two assists to his name.

While there is plenty of excitement surrounding the 24-year-old, Limpar explained to AceOdds.com that there is a couple of things he needs to work on before he can be mentioned among the greats of the game. "Timber is a hell of a player to keep Ben White on the bench, first of all," the Swede explained.

"Because in the last few years, the player who has made [Bukayo] Saka look good is Ben White. White and Saka play unbelievably well together.

"It is up to Timber now to assist and make Saka better. When it comes to defending, I think Timber is decent.

"Going forward he is unbelievable. That's the Arsenal way, to play offensive football."

"But overall, he's an incredible player," Limpar concluded. "He's been one of the best in the Premier League but again, these guys need to win something to be up and compete with the best.

"Take Gary Neville for example. He has won so much and Timber hasn't.

"When it comes to talking about the best players in Premier League history, it comes down to trophies. Unfortunately."

Limpar's assessment of Neville is far from wrong. At United, Neville was a serial trophy winner, managing to bag eight Premier Leagues, two Champions Leagues, four FA Cups, three League Cups and the Club World Cup.

Neville, who is now a prominent pundit and co-owner of Salford City, was also captain of United for a spell during his career.
